Job Summary |
Responsible for the supervision and protection of young adults while in the care of the court. Ensures that youths are safe, and engaged in meaningful activities.
The FCD Youth Officer may be assigned to any of the FCD locations.

Duties and Responsibilities |
- Interviews parent/guardian/youth to obtain critical data for example, name and address of parent/guardian/child/children, next of kin, telephone contact number if any, and illnesses, business before the court and the courtroom, etc.
- Verifies information obtained from parent/guardian/youth on the Court Management Information System.
- Maintains a register of information obtained.
- Establishes and maintains a system for tidying the youth room.
- Plans and executes age-appropriate activities for youths in the care of the court.
- Prepares, displays and maintains a print-rich and literacy enhancing facility.
- Organises and maintains a developmentally appropriate, stimulating and sanitary environment.
- Secures (in a sanitary condition) all utensils and materials used by youths.
- Ensures that the interaction among youths is safe and without incidents.
- Uses every opportunity to teach life skills.

- Knowledge of the various stages in human development.
- Knowledge of first-aid practices.

- Good interactive and interpersonal skills.
- Skills in conflict resolution.
- Skills and experience in dealing with troubled youths.
- Skills in engaging youths in conversation and age-appropriate activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

Minimum Experience and Training |
- Certificate in Social Work, Psychology or Teacher training.
- Three (3) years’ experience working with and supervising youths.
- Any other combination of experience and training.
- Valid First Aid Certificate will be an asset.
