Job Summary

 

The Court Librarian II is responsible for administrative and professional library work of moderate difficulty by assisting in managing the Technical Services Division of one of the Libraries in the Unit.

Reports to Court Library Manager
Supervision Given to Professional, paraprofessional and/or clerical staff of a Library Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Serves as part of the Unit’s management team, including assisting with the management of junior staff and with development and application of policies, procedures and workflows within the various divisions of the Unit.
  • Performs original and complex copy cataloguing, classification, series and subject analysis for monographs, serials, electronic resources and non-book formats in all subject areas, according to accepted international standards and practices.
  • Implements policies and procedures pertaining to the cataloguing department and organises and directs the workload and workflow of the Cataloguing Section.
  • Performs databases maintenance and ensures quality control of bibliographic records.
  • Organises, co-ordinates and manages the collection in one of the Libraries in the Unit.
  • Provides experienced and customised legal reference services.
  • Contributes to the input and management of the OPAC’s databases.
  •  Contributes to content of Court Libraries Gateway and to the Unit’s input on Judiciary’s Intranet.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of staff manuals and staff training.
Knowledge

 

  • Working knowledge of legal research tools and techniques as well as of legal research databases and familiarity with electronic resources.
  • Good understanding of court administration, the court system and court performance standards.
  • General knowledge of integrated library systems.
Skills and Abilities

 

  • Excellent analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to catalogue and classify library material in a variety of formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and schedule staff to maintain an efficient library system.
  • Ability to work in a team based, performance driven environment.
Minimum Experience and Training

 

  • Extensive experience and training in the field of Library Services as evidenced by a Masters’ Degree (M.L.S.) OR an Undergraduate Degree in Library Science form an accredited institution, with at least five (5) years post qualification experience.
  • The candidate should also have at least three (3) years middle management level experience
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
