| Job Summary |
Work of a routine nature that involves monitoring and controlling the entry of persons to
Judge’s/Master’s/Magistrate’s chambers, as well as attending to them as required both in and out of court. An employee in this class is responsible for the enforcement of stipulated rules and regulations laid down regarding the entry and movement of members of the public through and in court buildings, so as to ensure adequate protection to Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar, as well as valuable documents and the smooth and efficient running of the office generally. Duties also include locating legal books and cases in the court’s library or in the Judge’s, Master’s or Magistrate’s chambers in accordance with legal citations. It also includes copying confidential
documents for the Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar, attending on the Judge/Master/Registrar of the Criminal Division and District Criminal and Traffic Court s and/or officers of comparable status. Work is performed in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures under the supervision of Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar.
The Divisional Judicial Orderly may be assigned to any judicial officer at any court location as required.

| Duties and Responsibilities |
- Assists by carrying their bags and books when necessary.
- Controls the entry of persons into Judge’s, Master’s and Magistrate’s chamber and preserves order in the section or area to which he/she is assigned.
- Receives and directs and/or escorts visitors to appropriate offices and gives routine information to members of the public.
- Assists Judge, Master and Magistrate in robing, ushers them into court and attends to them as required both in court and chambers.
- Displays physical evidence in court.
- Collects and returns law books and other legal materials from and to Law Library for use by Judge, Master and Magistrate.
- Assists the Judge, Master and Magistrate in locating and filing law reports and other materials in the Law Library or the Judicial Officer’s chamber.
- Photocopies and collates documents e.g. judgments, notes of evidence or other material required by the Judge, Master or Magistrate and maintains that confidentiality as required by the Judge, Master and Magistrates.
- Announces the entry of Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar in court and orders those attending court to stand for the entrance and departure of Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar.
- Retrieves court files and documents as requested by the Judge/Master/Magistrate/Registrar.
- Performs office support duties and mail delivery as required when the judicial officer leaves for the day or is out of office.

- Some knowledge of office procedures and practices.

| Skills and Abilities |
- Ability to understand simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn methods for performing routine and repetitive tasks within
a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to identify legal citations and to locate the appropriate legal texts
and law reports.
- Physical strength for lifting and moving relatively light objects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
judges, masters, magistrates, registrars, colleagues, attorneys-at-law and the
public.
- Ability to deal firmly but tactfully and sensitively with the general public.
- Ability to keep confidential the work of the judge/master/magistrate/registrar.

| Minimum Experience and Training |
- Some experience gained by working in the courts or similar environment.
- Training as evidenced by a school leaving certificate; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training
